Obesity Cluster
The SHIFT2HEALTH EU project is working alongside other projects funded through Horizon Europe, to share knowledge and increase the impact of the research on society. The projects listed below form a European cluster of research activity focused on obesity.
BETTER4U is a 4-year Horizon Europe funded project (2023-2027) that aims to develop comprehensive research and innovative interventions to address and reverse the widespread increase in obesity and weight gain.
Bio-streams is a Multi-Pillar Framework to address childhood obesity by building on an EU biobank, micro-moments and mobile recommendation systems.
CoDiet is an international research project that aims to combat diet-related diseases through innovative diet-monitoring technologies and personalised nutrition.
The Global Aim of eprObes (for early prevention of Obesity) is to identify factors (risk and protective) and mechanisms thereof, related with excessive weight gain, in critical maturational periods, including peri- conceptional / gestational, early child development and puberty / adolescence, for setting tailored preventive measures to avoid obesity and its comorbidities in both sexes.
HealthyW8 aims to prevent obesity by taking a multi-disciplinary portfolio approach that combines interventions focusing on diet, physical activity, and psycho-emotional aspects. The project will consider obesity as a multifactorial phenomenon and account for individual, interpersonal, organizational, community, and public policy levels. HealthyW8 will focus on pivotal situations in the life-trajectory of individuals, where the risk of progressing to overweight and obesity is high, such as primary schoolchildren, young adults, and the elderly. The project aims to empower citizens to adopt healthy and sustainable lifestyle behaviours while supporting evidence-based clinical, environmental, and policy-level decisions.
Obelisk is a five-year research project, and our ambition is to prevent childhood obesity and contribute to enhancing the health, quality of life, and life span of people of all ages living in Europe.Treating adults with obesity and overweight is known to be difficult, and it's proven that both prevention and treatment work better in younger age groups. Obelisk has an ambitious research programme to prevent childhood obesity and "cut the roots" of the pandemic.
PAS GRAS is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action (RIA) that aims to clarify the role of lifestyle, mental health, family, socioeconomic factors and the environment in the development of obesity, and their interaction with the genetic and metabolic characteristics of each individual. Based on an integrated analysis of multiple parameters, PAS GRAS will develop a personalized and robust assessment of the increased risk of obesity and associated complications, such as cardiovascular problems. PAS GRAS will target children (3-9 years old), adolescents (10-18 years old), young adults (19-25 years old), and their families, who are overweight or obese. Additionally, the project will study cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the protective effect of Mediterranean diet components and physical activity, as well as, create an international campaign aimed at increasing health literacy and raising awareness in society about the risks of obesity.
OBCT provides health professionals, researchers, policy makers and the public with knowledge, maps and tools to support sustainable prevention of obesity, with a particular focus on low SEP communities. To achieve this, we quantify the contribution of biological, sociocultural and built environmental risk factors of obesity risks and the interactions in and across various life stages, and translate the resulting knowledge into practical and effective tools for action.
